Growing numbers of rich Chinese are applying for permanent residency in Western countries under programmes that allow investors with a high net worth to “buy” citizenship:

The number of Chinese investors applying for foreign permanent residency surged 30 percent in the first half of 2010, taking away with them 15 billion yuan (US$2.2 billion). Chinese people almost used up all the migration quota in Canada and Australia, two hottest destinations for immigrants.
