Brazil has a total of 136 million computers in use by businesses and home users, according to the 25th annual survey of technology use in enterprises taken by the School of Business Administration of São Paulo, Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV-EAESP). Out of all these devices, 13% (18 million) are tablets – the study considers tablets as computers.

The research done by Professor Fernando Meirelles was conducted with more than 6000 large and medium-sized companies with 2300 valid responses. It shows a growing process of computerization of enterprises and society.

The study says that there are two computers for every three inhabitants of the country, a density of 67% per capita. It is estimated that in 2014 that 27.8 million devices sold during the year were sold in Brazil, nearly one PC per second. Thus, in 2016, research predicts that there will be one PC per capita, more than 200 million computers in Brazil.

Tablets will help the computer market in the country to continue growing in the coming years. With the help of these devices – which are considered computers in the survey – the market grew 19% in 2013 and is forecast to increase by 10% this year. Still, it sells more notebooks than desktop PCs and tablets dominate commerce. In May, the expectation is that these devices will reach 40% of industry sales.

The density of mobiles and landlines in Brazil overcame the United States, with 158%. That means there are more than three devices for every two inhabitants in the country.

Microsoft continues to dominate the workstation enterprises with Windows Explorer and Office with over 90% usage.
